Gordon Sparks

Gordon Sparks in front of Plymouth Argyle's Homepark StadiumAs presenter of BBC Radio Devon’s Plymouth Breakfast Show on weekday mornings and commentator on Plymouth Argyle matches for the radio station, ‘Sparksy’ is a well-known figure around the city.

Also a football columnist and feature writer for ‘The Herald’, he has his finger on the pulse of everything that’s happening in Plymouth.

Last year, Gordon was diagnosed with testicular cancer, and following his treatment, decided to launch his own charity, ‘Have A Ball with Sparksy’ - raising funds for The Mustard Tree at the MacMillan cancer support centre at Derriford hospital.

It was an overwhelming success, with the sale of thousands of football key-rings, a gig featuring local bands and even a calendar featuring the
players of Plymouth Argyle - naked!

With several generous donations adding to the funds, a great deal of money
has already been raised, but now, ’Have A Ball …’ has had a chain added
for the Dartmoor Jailbreak.

Gordon says: “When I was given the opportunity to take part in this event,
how could I refuse when my surgeon is part of my team?”
